Landscape Painting

I specialize in painting Landscapes in pastel or watercolor. Sometimes both mediums make a great combination. All are places that I have traveled to and have taken pictures of. In some cases, I painted “plein-aire” on location with other artists. I often paint from photos — particularly in the wintertime. I also love painting old houses or parts of them. They seem to have a spirit all their own.

House Portraits

I’ve specialized in painting House Portraits in Watercolor for over 30 years. I don’t just paint the house, but the property and the “spirit” of the home as well. I have met many interesting people, traveled to many places and moved mountain peaks, built a fence for roses, and changed the seasons by painting every plant blooming at the same time. Anything is possible in my house portraits.

Biography

People often ask me how long I’ve been drawing and painting. As a child, I went to Saturday morning art classes at The Cleveland Museum of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. This definitely had a big influence on me. In college, I majored in Commercial Art at Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Prior to marriage, and 5 children, I was an Advertising Layout Artist at The May Company in Cleveland, Ohio.

Throughout the years – I painted posters, signs, and scenery for churches, schools, and hospitals. During the 1970s, I started taking painting classes with artist Rae Robinson — in Southington. Later – classes at Lyme Academy — in Old Lyme, Guilford Handcrafts, and Arts & Crafts of Meriden Assoc. In 1992, I joined The Connecticut River Artisans Cooperative in Chester, CT. I show and sell my Paintings, Handmade Paper Books, and Saying Cards there.  From 2008 to 2012, I ran The Art Gallery at The Mill House. I also ran the Artisans Holiday Show, which ran through November and December. All of it is a lot of work, but it’s very gratifying. I’m always meeting new people/artists plus we learn from each other.

I managed The Gallery at The Orchards thru Southington Arts & Crafts Association. The Gallery is located @ 34 Hobart St., Southington, CT.
The Gallery is now temporarily closed due to covid.
